Pure Anarchism - A Warning

In studying anarchism one can't help but notice the fact that it's development has been signally influenced by a handful of individuals, both modern and ancient. From Tolstoy to Chomsky, the landscape of anarcho thought has been molded by these great thinkers. But lately I have been vexed by something that has caught my attention regarding this very fact. It would seem that anarchists in every position on the spectrum of thought, are no longer merely influenced by these thinkers, but they are being guided by their writings as though they were holy writ.

I recently read an article in a popular online magazine for anarchistic thought, where the modern occupy wall street movement was said to be conforming to old ideals of a few anarchist philosophers. This is all well and good and not neccessarily the problem. The problem lies in a section where the fact is established and defended that these protesters are to be held accountable to their conformity to this set of ideals they are reflecting (there was no mention as to whether the ideals were purposefully being upheld, or the reflection is merely coincidental). This is where I would digress from modern anarchistic thought, if this is indeed the general consensus.

We have to take a step back and consider what it is we hold close as anarchists. We MUST do this if pure anarchism is to survive. It is imperative that we keep sacred the one thing that has always held true throughout our philosophies, the fact that we are convinced of our ability to be a self governing people. If we lose sight of this one thing, our anarchism is rendered utterly, and completely useless and powerless. It is this one tenet that makes pure anarchism the only political ideal that offers true and unhindered freedom. When we lose hold on self governance, we lose hold on freedom.

How than are we to link these two thoughts here presented? Anarchism is essentially a lack of political dogma. While full of rhetoric and powerful, moving prose, it lacks the dogmatic approach of other, more close minded and narrow political ideas. Herein lies the power, contrary to popular critique. This is lost in modern herd mentaility as we have a generation of people raised in a culture of followers. Now the great free thinkers of our past are held up as gurus of political ideals rather than idealists whose purpose was to fuel their readers own thought process. They are obeyed rather than read. Their ideals are pushed as rules and dogma rather than the foundations of free thought. Atrocities are committed in their name that, foundationally, have absolutely nothing to do with their ideas. I think our anarchist forefathers would not approve.

In summation, let's not turn the only political ideal that can offer true freedom into just another system of bondage and tyrranical rule. We must not forget the great minds from which this philosophy has sprung, but just as importantly, we mustn't forget the great philosophy that shaped these minds. They were great because they thought freely, not because they reinterpreted the philosophies of the great thinkers who inspired them. In fact inspiration is a spring board, not a framework.

C4SS Rebuke to the 53%

One of the corporate establishment’s favorite tricks for countering dissent is fake populism — dismissing as “class warfare” any critique of genuine privilege while misdirecting the working class’s resentment toward the underclass.

It’s sometimes called “producerism”: An attempt to manufacture a sense of class solidarity between wage workers and their alleged fellow “producers” in the plutocracy, against the parasitic lower orders. See, the banksters, billionaires and cowboy CEOs aren’t to blame for the average person’s economic pain. They’re “producers,” just like us! The culprits are the 47% who “don’t pay any taxes,” an unholy alliance of ACORN, SEIU and single moms on food stamps.

The latest example of this astroturf right-wing populism is the so-called “53%” movement, created by RedState.org founder Erick Erickson, with the help of Josh Trevino of the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Their website, the53.tumblr.com, features photos of contributors holding up handwritten statements on the general pattern of Mr. Erickson’s own inaugural post: “I work 3 jobs. I have a house I can’t sell. My family insurance costs are outrageous. But I don’t blame Wall Street. Suck it up, you whiners.”

One contributor, a Marine veteran, writes: “I don’t blame Wall Street because it doesn’t matter what Wall Street or anyone else does. I am responsible for my own destiny. I will succeed or fail because of me and me ALONE.”

This sort of sycophancy is just painful to read. Here are people with multiple jobs and underwater mortgages, struggling to survive while falling all over themselves trying to outdo each other in absolving the Mr. Moneypennys and Daddy Warbuckses of any responsibility for their plight. It’s like watching a dog that keeps crawling back on its belly to lick the boot of the man who’s kicking it.

The worst part of this pathetic movement is that, intellectually speaking, it’s completely incoherent. It’s not derived from any consistent principle that bears looking into. Its participants can’t claim, as a matter of principle, that it’s wrong to resent other people or to blame them for their problems. After all, their very name suggests it’s entirely appropriate to condemn parasitism — namely, that of which the 47% is allegedly guilty. And most of its contributors are the same people who’ve been loudly cheering on the likes of Joe the Plumber who complained the country was going to hell in a handbasket. So it’s OK to blame your problems on THEM — just so long as THEM is the Kenyan Marxist and not the billionaires.

“Know when to bark and when to lick,” as the saying goes. Resentment and moral outrage are entirely righteous when directed downward, but shameful and impious when directed upward against one’s betters. It’s perfectly OK to express resentment against economic injustice — just so long as you blame the poor instead of the rich. It’s like a slave blaming his troubles, not on the master, but on another slave picking cotton too slowly. Utterly contemptible.

You folks in the 53% movement are being played.

You don’t like parasitism? The billionaire banksters and corporate welfare queens who fund your astroturf movement are the biggest parasites in human history. They loot wealth from the genuine producers with a front end loader, while you worry about people scraping up welfare with a teaspoon.

You say you don’t like big government? The corporations are the government. Count the number of people from Goldman-Sachs in the Treasury, from Cargill in the USDA, and from Pfizer in the FDA. Now count the number of welfare moms. Yeah, that’s some “Marxist” in the White House, all right. Schmuck.

The statism involved in food stamps and TANF is barely a rounding error on the statism involved in the privilege of the super-rich. The central function of the state is to enforce the artificial property rights, artificial scarcities, entry barriers, regulatory cartels, and other monopolies from which the privileged rich extract rents. Welfare is just a way of giving back a miniscule fraction of this stolen loot to the poorest of the poor, to prevent politically destabilizing levels of starvation and homelessness. Ever hear the phrase “straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel?”

So here’s a message for those of you out there who pride yourselves on licking the spittle of the rich and powerful while you kick those who are down. You think you’ll get a gold star or a pat on the head if you suck up to them enough? If you work hard enough building their pyramids, maybe they’ll make you Pharaoh someday? You really think the folks on Wall Street whose apples you’re polishing admire you as fellow “producers?”

Thanks for the support of OpDeleteFB. It is still very much a go, it just has taken a back burner position given the events presently orbiting the Occupy Wall Street movement. We are facing media blackouts, LRAD attacks, extreme police brutality, and 30k man marches.

We have to take this time to ask ourselves where we stand, and stand there. This is not a time for fence straddling as this is a definitive time in the history of our country. We face mass censorship, nationwide violations of basic constitutional rights, and government ordered media blackouts regarding them, and right now we can fight. But if we miss the opportunity, we miss everything, and give up everything.

Mission:
The mission of this op is twofold. First it is too send a clear, and impossible to ignore message to Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook. This message being primarily that we do not, as a collective, take to our personal information being sold, and or freely distributed, to third parties. With the addition of the newly designed facial recognition engine within Facebook, this now includes full databases with our likes, dislikes, favorite foods, location information, travel habits, and much more, all traceable via any camera or picture in the world. All one needs is the database and a picture and they can practically pin point you, or get any information they desire.

Therefore, we have taken it upon ourselves to clearly and emphatically proclaim our rights to personal privacy, even on the internet. This is the primary mission of OpDeleteFB.

Secondly we hope to send a clear and forceful message to the entirety of the social networking industry, as well as any and all companies who specialize in any form of information. That message being that we will not tolerate the invasion of our privacy, the dissemination of our private data, or the profiteering that results by the few that choose to make money off of this unethical and dirty practice. That being said, keep up the good work Anonymous and friends, and we shall be victorious in this op.

The Next Step

Here at Anonymous we always expect someone, somewhere, to say something, sometime against our ops. Interestingly enough not many have said anything too bad about this one. I thought I would therefore offer two nuggets concerning this movement, and a way to really begin to stir things up over at our good friend Mark Zuckerberg's company.

1. It was asked today if we are essentially trying to do for the less intrusive social media outlets was OpCashback is doing for the credit unions. Truthfully I hadn't thought of
It like that, but I guess in some sense we are. While we send Facebook a message saying "stop distributing our f'ing information", we are also sending a message to the more trustworthy social platforms saying "keep it up" by migrating there. Have we a viable and localized alternative to Facebook? Not at this time, but perhaps those at ConnectU would like to chat ( anoncandyman@gmail.com is my email ) and discuss if perhaps they could handle our info with less slippery fingers.

2. The December 24th deadline is not in fact a "day of action", it is however a date that we have set to delete our accounts before. Don't think you have to wait until that day to do it, today is the day of salvation, and now is the time of Facebook disfavor. We are still working to gather a comprehensive instruction manual regarding completely deleting your information, as well as how to find out if any remains on the Facebook servers post deletion. While the latter may be reserved for the more resourceful of us, trust me the battle belongs to anonymous, and victorious we shall be.

What to do now: We are all familiar with picket protests yes? Hell, we sort of patented the idea. So let's start a sort of online protest and begin flooding the customer service office of Facebook with support tickets asking that our private data be maintained private and not given away, to either advertiser or any agent, private or government.

I am assuming that many here have Facebook accounts ready to be deleted, therefore let's use them for what little good they are capable of before we delete them. We can safely say that your personal information is "intellectual property", or at least it can be categorized as such for our purposes. So let's report Mark Zuckerberg for intellectual property infringement by distributing our browser details, personal information, and the like to third parties. Go here, fill out the form appropriately ( omitting or entering falsely info you don't want distributed ) and sending the report ticket saying Mr. Zuckerberg has infringed on your intellectual property (please use a web proxy like HideMyAss).

It’s necessary at this point, given the fact that this Op has picked up steam, to address a few concerns that have been raised regarding Anonymous in relation to Facebook. There is much misinformation surrounding this entire ordeal, and it is here and now that the air is to be cleared.

1. Anonymous was never planning an Op that involved exploitation of the Facebook web site. It is hard to pinpoint exactly where this "Op" started, but the general consensus among prominent Anonymous members is that this was the work of a few publicity whores trying to create controversy. So let this be the final word, we did not try and fail (because trust me, if we tried we would not have failed), we did not plan to attack the site, and we do not plan to do so in the future.

2. Regarding the concerns that have surfaced, both in the comments here, and in the relevant twitter feeds, regarding the involvement of the Occupy movement with Facebook let me just say this: there are many other more secure, higher exposing, and easier ways to promote the revolutions events and news.

Facebook has never been, and never will be the primary source of #OWS news. Twitter seems to have already been seated on that throne.
It would seem the usage, and therefore promotion of a multi-billion dollar exploitative website is an extreme conflict of interest given the nature of, and roots of the Occupy revolution. Not to mention Mr. Zuckerberg undoubtedly funnels large amounts of money into politics, thereby bottle necking the democratic procedure.
Using the services offered by Facebook as a means of promoting ideas, events, names, and any information regarding the Occupy movement puts all who are involved at extreme risk, as the information posted is inevitably handed over to the proper government authorities in order to update watch lists, and the like.

Apart from these concerns, please feel free to continue the discussions, as we are enthusiastic regarding the interest that has been taken, the momentum we are already gathering, and the possibility of sending a worldwide message to those promoting exploitation and privacy intrusion.

Coming Shortly: a word regarding the Occupy movement and Facebook.

Mark Zuckerberg... Billionaire founder of Facebook makes his money selling personal info pulled from the users of his free service. Each and every update, both to the desktop and mobile sites are geared not for user friendliness (obviously), but rather for the betterment on data extraction. The extracted data is than sold to advertisers, people search engines, and government agencies, despite privacy settings and personal rights.

Furthermore, the devious web practices add insult to injury as it is nigh impossible for the average end user to actually DELETE their account. Deactivation is purported to be a secure alternative "in case you ever want to come back". Some people are just as addicted to Farmville as others are to heroin.

Zuckerberg's company has even been sued for keeping data archived that was requested to be deleted from their servers. Deactivated accounts are still completely intact, tucked away and ready to be handed off to the highest bidder. The deletion process is long and tedious, and often results in a reactivation of the account when a random website somehow "interacts" with your Facebook profile (which means their is something ON YOUR PC interacting with your browser, collecting data and info - in my world we call these keyloggers and spyware).

#OpDeleteFB is an operation spearheaded by your friendly neighborhood Anonymous members, urging you to extract your data from the Zuckerberg empire and utilize more anonymous and secure means of online social interaction. Whether it be Twitter, IRC, open source VoIP software, or any other means, Just make sure the platform respects your personal rights to privacy enough to not line their pockets with your personal information.

So this December 24th, let's all give Mr. Zuckerberg a Christmas gift he will NEVER forget, and let him know that violating our personal rights to privacy, and secretly selling our data, is NOT a legitimate means of making a living. We shall prevail against even the richest of the greedy, and we shall no longer allow the dissemination of our info. December 24th - delete your Facebook account and set an example for the world.

Candyman's additions: There are some things that I think are necessary as there is no gaurantee that Mr. Zuckerberg actually deletes anything, given the lucrative market he has stumbled into. Therefore here are a few of my own suggestions.

1) delete all photos.

2) Dont just REMOVE your personal info (ie. Name, birth date, location, etc.) but CHANGE THEM to something more fabricated. This way if the 'deleted' profile info is in fact archived it will be wrong, and if enough time passes, may not be able to be properly recovered.

3) delete EVERYTHING contained within the profile, exceptions of course include what I mentioned in step 2.

4) enjoy the freedom of not having your personal data at risk.
