Coming Shortly: a word regarding the Occupy movement and Facebook.
Mark Zuckerberg... Billionaire founder of Facebook makes his money selling personal info pulled from the users of his free service. Each and every update, both to the desktop and mobile sites are geared not for user friendliness (obviously), but rather for the betterment on data extraction. The extracted data is than sold to advertisers, people search engines, and government agencies, despite privacy settings and personal rights.
Furthermore, the devious web practices add insult to injury as it is nigh impossible for the average end user to actually DELETE their account. Deactivation is purported to be a secure alternative "in case you ever want to come back". Some people are just as addicted to Farmville as others are to heroin.
Zuckerberg's company has even been sued for keeping data archived that was requested to be deleted from their servers. Deactivated accounts are still completely intact, tucked away and ready to be handed off to the highest bidder. The deletion process is long and tedious, and often results in a reactivation of the account when a random website somehow "interacts" with your Facebook profile (which means their is something ON YOUR PC interacting with your browser, collecting data and info - in my world we call these keyloggers and spyware).
#OpDeleteFB is an operation spearheaded by your friendly neighborhood Anonymous members, urging you to extract your data from the Zuckerberg empire and utilize more anonymous and secure means of online social interaction. Whether it be Twitter, IRC, open source VoIP software, or any other means, Just make sure the platform respects your personal rights to privacy enough to not line their pockets with your personal information.
So this December 24th, let's all give Mr. Zuckerberg a Christmas gift he will NEVER forget, and let him know that violating our personal rights to privacy, and secretly selling our data, is NOT a legitimate means of making a living. We shall prevail against even the richest of the greedy, and we shall no longer allow the dissemination of our info. December 24th - delete your Facebook account and set an example for the world.
Freedom without fear, victory without violence, both online and off.
(DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT an operation aiming at any form of defacing, hacking, included but not limited to cross site scripting, script injection, etc. Of the Facebook website. We respect Facebook's right to host a website free from hacking attempts, and any attacks aimed at defacing or taking control in any way of the Facebook website are in no way associated with Anonymous, its members, or those promoting #OpDeleteFB . We choose not to stoop to the level of Mr.Zuckerberg, and allow each human being the choice of who receives their personal information)

Please post instructions as to how best for most end users to effectively delete their FB accounts and remove data
Respect is Reciprocal.
As is Disrespect..........
Rage On U Crazy Diamonds!
There will be extensive instructions posted. In the meantime, spread the word. We hope to see at least 1 million accounts deleted by December 24th.
It's hard to remove all the data you have on facebook, because whn you click on the "remove" button, the data are ju marked that you cannot see them. But facebook still have them on their servers, all you can do is hope that your data'll get removed one day. Facebook also offers deleting your account, but it's somewhere hidden in the options of facebook, here's the link https://ssl.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account
Great initiative. One million is a good target - ambitious, but not too ambitious.
Bonne initiative mais je croyais que même si l'on supprimais notre compte, les informations y restaient...
people should be using their facebook accounts to spread the occupy movement, not deleting them...that's just working backwards.
what proof are you showing to support your claims? i'm sure behind closed doors this stuff "could" happen, but you sound like a troll attempting to use the movement to destroy the movement by ridding it of its main sources of communication.
you're a troll.
Ur naive & trusting attitude is sweet music 2 Z'Bergz ears!

How can u say this is without violence? You're not forced to be on facebook, but who the hell do you think you are to choose what people should do about their personal life? Stop talking about politic you brainless geek, you don't even know what does it mean... Leave facebook if you want to, but forcing people to stop using facebook by destructing it is definitly violent. After all, only what you post on facebook is in facebook, so it's up to everybody to keep what you want private...
I think that it will be difficult for this to work.
I think that defacing, hacking, included but not limited to cross site scripting, script injection, etc. Of the Facebook website would have been more effective, even if it meant 'stooping' to Zuckerberg's level.
I enjoy Facebook. I don't use any games or apps, but I merely enjoy being able to talk with family and friends with the click of a button.
I do not like the fact that they are storing all my information. I'm not doing anything wrong, but it's a level of privacy that I do not want breached. It's like having someone sitting in your face writing down your personal conversation with someone and giving it away for a couple bucks.
I like what Anonymous does. Making a change in the world.
Facebook is being used to spread info which is helpful. If some losers want to waste their time on fb, let them. I want people to know more about the OCCUPY movement, so getting more aware people off of facebook is not the right way to go.
Just my two cents.
I think it would be easier for everyone to just use fake names, fake info, etc. No one said using Facebook was bad, it's them stealing your info that is bad. So trick them. Screw up their data processing. It's your account, use it how you want.
Furthermore, people of the World should know that E-Mail services are no different. Every email you ever send or receive, in a closed or open account, is saved somewhere. Hundreds of years from now, when every one of us humans are long dead and gone, some corporations may get rich selling your old emails in books, because if everyone is dead, who would argue?
Just start promoting #OWS and they are bound to remove your account for you :P
Well said, despite a few grammatical errors. I'm definitely one for delivering a powerful message to FB. Since day 1, they were about communicating with people you don't get to see everyday, keeping your information secure, and at the same time, the power of the artificial intelligence embedded into the source code, allowing ads, cookies, Google and other means to track your likes, your interests, and pull you further into the sinkhole of the internet. Mark Zuckerburg sold out, he cashed in his idea and the security has since shit the bed. You used to have to have a College email to make an account, now any idiot with an @.com can log in, allowing botnets and other things to make accounts and steal more information and take over as others just sit back, click links and relax.
so you guys could not shutdown facebook so you are asking us to close our accounts which doesn't even delete all our old data. you guys are full of shit.
"so you guys could not shutdown facebook so you are asking us to close our accounts which doesn't even delete all our old data. you guys are full of shit."
Obviously you're out of the loop.
Facebook has definitely been useful in spreading the word. However, Facebook is also a multi-million dollar company, which is who the Occupy movement is protesting against. It does not make sense to support a company that exploits people's information by selling them to the highest bidder. They said they want to give people the choice of staying on Facebook and are not forcing it on anyone. By shutting down your fb account, you also make yourself more accountable in looking for how to be involved in the movement, rather than waiting for the information to fall into your lap, the way it does on fb.
Hey, they maintain our photos or texts when we delete this information? If so, we can upload many irrelevant photos and create inumerous notes (with many words) and then exclude it. If too many people do this, they'll need to have a lot more space in their servers, agree? It's an oportunity of peaceful attack against him... right?
Look, Of course we don't like that FB does things we don't like. But this Movement is about spreading the word and helping We The People To Wake UP! FB gives us the most wide ranging avenue to do so. Their time will come, but for now, let us use them for OUR MEANS. Soon enough, The Government will shut it down. It will have no choice. For now, all I do is promote #OWS, with no problems from FB. Use FB to continue to uncover the LIES and Spread The Facts of the Class WAR against We The People! We Are The 99%!
Long ago I started a facebook account just to maybe be able to commicate with my sister, was not interested in social media, I very soon deleted the account as I was not interested. Shortly, thereafter, I received an-mail infroming my account had been re-activated. I did not do that. I deleted it again and only came back to facebook because of the Revolution. I don't know what was up with that re-activation. I did not come from me, but somehow it was done. Any thoughts on what happened there? Please, post on OccupyMARINES site as that is where I will see it. Thank you. I am happy to delete my account as long as I know how to stay with the people and I need help understanding all of this social media.
Why doesn't anonymous just go in and delete their stored info on us? That's what seems to be the problem.
What happened to AnonPlus? We need a developed alternative...
Meantime, the only splace we have to use to flashOp, to crowdsource, to message outward groups, events, ideas reaching Legion, is FB. Its the only alternative to mainstream media News for most.
We need some other creative guerilla approach/s, rather than shutdown...Meantime.
Any ideas out there?
I myself would love to leave Faccebook, but I can't, in a sense. I log into websites like Soundcloud with Facebook. I can't afford to lose my account on SC, so if anyone can help me find a way to unlink the accounts, it would be much appreciated.
There are plenty of websites out there that offer free forums.
If you want to communicate with friends and family, an idea would be to create one of these and allow your family members to register accounts.
If you enjoy the games and such on facebook then just register an account with false information and a throw away email account.
Let this zucker bloke sell a heap of bogus information.
Please provide proof of so called personal information sale. targeted advertising is not considered personal information sale. if you shut down fb your hurting small businesses who relies on social networking to pass on their marketing message. you guys seems to be living in a delusional world.
keep your propaganda strictly to institutions, just because someone had a great idea that the world loved and executed it then became a billionaire is totally separate matter of fact than those who deceive to change the world in front of public then can't keep their head straight when walking down a lobby. I know how powerful tcp/ip stack manipulation and social engineering is and to top it off how much free time kids have to run a binary string through Ida, so lets keep the movement in the right direction.
Just a thought - but is it possible to subvert the 'consumerism' focus in FB data by paticipating in the platform - but making sure that the you generate focused anti-consumerism, pro-People data?
Use the system to flood the data store with the data you want to reflect.
If course this does depend on a certain amount of comfort with specific concepts that currently ordinary USA resident doesnt have imo.
Just thinking of ways to use the system against itself. Part of me thinks that adds just a little bit of lulz to it.

what I want to see is the d0x of The founder mark zuckerberg, that will be better than shutting down the website
There is a video for this #opdeletefb (in french and will be soon in english):

Stand Firm everyone! Even if you can't bring yourself to delete your FB account doesn't mean you can't do SOMETHING. I think the IDEA here is to wake the fuck up... -E.T.
Got any actual evidence for this?
No, of course not.
Face it, this is only being supported by gullible teenagers
Well after a conversation with Google, i think anonymous is powered by Google
http://www.messycode.com/2011/11/16/why-google-adwords-hate-facebook-social-api/
i was planning to delete my FB account tomorrow but I've decided to wait till the 24th of Dec after reading this post. love the ~Christmas present to Zucky~ idea :) (though i seriously doubt the deletion of even a million accounts would make any difference to him)
Why didn't anyone mention the open-source social media site Diaspora? It basically just came out a month ago, but it's awesome. It's so good that Google+'s is trying to rip it off for their facebook competitor. By why migrate from FB to Google+ and get the same damn problems (only worse, as google is balls deep in EVERYthing), when you can support an open-source ultra-private alternative?
I'm using Diaspora* too! It's cool! It's my FB/G+ alternative :)
